Best of Sur le Plat 2019

Happy new year to all of the Sur le Plat fans that have faithfully followed me and let me know your favorite recipes this past year! These top ten recipes from 2019 reflect what you wanted to cook and share. For me personally these recipes recall memories of sultry nights in New Orleans, Florida beach weekends, cooking and sharing in the kitchen and at the table with friends, family hand me down recipes and mostly the seasonal bounty of good Louisiana living and eating. Here are your favorites from 2019!

The Saint 75 Cocktail

This gin based elderflower cocktail is a great starter to a special evening. Commander’s Palace in New Orleans and a very generous waiter introduced me to this easy sipping festive anytime cocktail.

Spiced Kumquat Chutney

Thanks to my friend Debbi Berger and my over productive kumquat tree, I am never at a loss for enough of these sweet and sour winter citrus. Chutney, cocktails, salads, sauces and upside down cakes….can you think of anything else for the adaptable kumquat? Check out the recipe if you missed it here.

Crawfish Bread

Crawfish, the harbinger of spring and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival! This crawfish bread is the perfect party food and adaptable with other seafood such as shrimp and crab.

Bourbon Milk Punch

Whether it’s concocted with bourbon or brandy, this milk punch is more like dessert and a perfect brunch cocktail. Bourbon Milk Punch is another New Orleans favorite and reminds me of Mardi Gras season which kicks off on January 6, King’s Day.

Coffee Almond Ice Cream Cake

Im not sure if it’s the coffee ice cream cake or the dark chocolate sauce that keeps you coming back for more of this frozen delight. I mostly love it because it is my daughter Maggie’s favorite and annually requested birthday sweet. I would make it everyday to celebrate Maggie if she requested it!

Greek Chicken Kebabs

Somehow this recipe always takes me back to the beach and the long hot days of summer. I hope that it satisfies your craving for a savory Mediterranean entree.

Coffee Rani Brownies

Coffee Rani, a popular coffee shop and lunch spot in Covington Louisiana is where I got my start baking in a postage stamp sized kitchen. Scones, brioche, and these signature brownies were the top selling items. Lucky you, now you can make them too.

Blueberry Cobbler

You loved this mouth watering warm cobbler which is especially good straight from the oven with slowly melting vanilla ice cream. Blueberries are at their peak in early summer in south Louisiana. This is one of my favorite ways to prepare them and share with you my readers and friends.
