What do you do when your neighbor brings you a bottle of Pinhook Bourbon? After you say thank you and kiss her feet, you begin experimenting and researching to produce the best possible cocktail imaginable.
We happened to travel to New York in January, yes before the chaos and shut downs, and visited the charming Odeon Bistro, a retro haven in Tribeca. They invented a cocktail using Pinhook Bourbon called the East Broadway. The ingredients are listed on their menu and below is my attempt to reinvent this perfect bourbon drink. The original cocktail at Odeon calls for juice form the calamansi fruit. I was not able to locate this fruit which is typical in the Philippines. So, I substituted a combination of mandarin and lemon juice. The result is a satisfying drink that is a little tart, a little bitter, and balanced by the smooth sweetness of a finely crafted bourbon.
