Are you looking for the perfect champagne cocktail to ring in the new year? Look no further! If you like Negroni’s you will truly appreciate this cocktail. Nothing says celebrate like a bubbly cocktail. The 2022 champagne cocktail is a Negroni but without the sweet vermouth. The splash of sparkling wine gives this cocktail an effervescence that fills your mouth with a bubbly sensation.
I used to be a champagne purist and would accept nothing less than the authentic sparkling wine from the Champagne region of France.
Over the years I have learned to appreciate lots of other sparkling wines. They may not have quite the elegance and perceived sophistication of an authentic champagne, but then again, you’ll pay a fraction of the price that a bottle of champagne typically costs and discover sparkling wines that are rich and satisfying.
Consider trying a Cava from Spain Another great possibility is aProsecco from Italy’s Veneto region. Prosecco is the name of the wine and the grape. I use prosecco to make Aperol Spritz and to create a sparkle in my Blueberry Basil Martini.
To make this champagne cocktail you will need a cocktail shaker and some ice. Pour a dry gin, simple syrup, and the Italian aperitif, Campari, into the shaker. Add ice and stir gently.
Strain the cocktail mixture into a champagne glass or if you prefer you may use a cocktail glass. Top the cocktail with a splash of sparkling wine or champagne.
Use a vegetable peeler or zester to cut a long strip or zest of fresh orange peel. Rub the orange side of the zest around the rim of the glass and drop it into the champagne cocktail.
Happy New Year! Happy 2022!! Enjoy the bubbly!
