Muddle

Muddle

A bartending term for the process of gently crushing fruit or herbs, such as fresh mint, to release their essential oils or flavors. This is typically accomplished with a tool called a muddler, but any blunt object and a metal or thick glass container for the fruit or herbs can be used to muddle with a careful crushing motion for a cocktail. Think mojito or my kumquat old fashioned.
